Easter Egg Run

Well what can I say, when I arrived at the Secure Bike Park in Keswick already a large number of bikers had turned up to support the run and Anne's car was filling with Mmm eggs!Easter eggs quite nicely. A lot of familiar faces from the various clubs had turned up along with lots of new faces but everyone was milling around a having the crack just like any other biker meet.

When time was drawing near I (nervously) addressed the troops and gave a brief description of the route as we had altered the route from previous years runs and I stressed the basic safety when riding in numbers.

Simon Taylor our local bike cop led us away and along with the marshals did a good job of blocking the roads to allow all the bikes through, all 100 of them! It is quite a site to see so many bikes of all types and capacities moving down the road in convoy. We headed to Cockermouth and parked up in the main street for a ten-minute break and to collect eggs from local people who support us annually.

We then left Cockermouth and headed out to Maryport to park at Greggins Garage for a press photo shoot. Again we received more eggs from the public and from the Garage.
Mmmm more eggs!Back on the bikes and heading through Workington and on to the Lowther Arms at Hensingham, Whitehaven, for the final photo shoot and the presentation of the Eggs to Social Services.

Arriving at The Lowther Arms there was too many bikes to fit on the car park so some bikes had to be parked over the road. Anne had to pick up more eggs from Safeway and Tesco in Whitehaven (thanks!). Neil our landlord (MAG member & Biker) had provided free soup that was in great demand! As usual the photographer was late so some bikes had left before the photo shoot but never mind. The eggs were presented to Brenda Brodie of Social Services also some of the kids in care. Some of us then headed up to the West Cumberland Hospital Children's Ward where we handed over the remaining eggs. We even made the front page of the Whitehaven News the local newspaper.

I would have to say thanks to everyone who turned up and supported us making the event a success. So Cheers all!

The only downside of the day was a slight coming together between two marshals, I was run into and both bikes were damaged but we both walked away! It's the last time I'll mention safety I can tell you!!

See you all next year?
