Well
it was a cold and hazy afternoon as we met at Keswick to start our annual
Christmas Charity Run and much to my surprise a large number of bikes
had already assembled. I must apologise for being a little late but we
had been to Barrow MAG's Christmas bash the night before and I was a bit
late back!
Anyway after a brief crack with local bike Cop Simon Taylor, who assists
us with marshalling the event blocking roads and the like, we set out
towards Cockermouth. Around 45 bikes had turned out and the local bikers
had made donations of canned food for Age Concern which filled two cars.
I sported a very fetching pink helmet cover and lead the entourage to
Cockermouth Main Street this was our first stop. I did get quite a few
funny looks but hey it’s Christmas. Then with members of the public
adding their donations and
admiring the bikes we set off again towards Maryport.
Arriving at Maryport we stopped at Greggains Garage to have a photo shoot
with the local press.
We then headed back through Workington to our meeting place at Whitehaven
The Lowther Arms to hand our donations over to Mary Bradey from Age Concern
who expressed her thanks and told us the importance this food would make,
not only as food but also as a message to the elderly that people still
care about them.
Neil our landlord and fellow MAG member had put on free soup to defrost
our numb bodies and the usual crack that seems to start at any bike meet
ensued.

We would like to thank all the local bikers and clubs that supported us
on the run, Simon Taylor from the police for his assistance and the various
members of the public and the local stores (Safeways,Tescos and Greggains
Garage), for their support and look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Thanks
Terry Maxwell
